A Greek Farewell

Hiya, Silver Wolf here with some exciting and saddening news. To start with, some beloved Creators have recently been let go, including Mitch Krpata, who, according to his blog, was the “‘Senior Story Developer and Narrative Designer'” of Poptropica for many years. Along with his blog post, he recently composed a Tweet mentioning his departure:

Krpata wrote four (amazing) Poptropica books, including Poptropica: The End of Time, Poptropica: The Secret Society, Poptropica: The Lost Expedition, and the Poptropica Island Creator Kit. Possibly what he is best and most fondly known for by the community is being Captain Crawfish, an author on the Poptropica Creators’ Blog and the narrator for Poptropica video walkthroughs. He’ll be greatly missed, and we’ll always remember his humor. Hopefully he does get to follow his dreams!

Nate Greenwall, known for creating Dr. Hare, has also left Poptropica, expressing his gratitude for working for Poptropica in a Tweet:

24 Carrot in Poptropica Worlds!

24 Carrot

Hiya, Silver Wolf here with some very recent news about Poptropica Worlds! An exciting update has arrived, relating to one of Poptropica’s oldest and most popular islands: 24 Carrot! Oddly, it released quite abruptly without any post or sneak peeks nodding towards its arrival. Is this a sign of less communication from Poptropica? We shall see…

New 24 Carrot CharacterIn other news, there are several changes to our beloved land of Dr. Hare. I haven’t completed it yet, but certain aspects of the quest have changed, like *spoilers* you release Charlie’s cat from a cage, which was a trap for Dr. Hare! That’s quite different from the original assignment of just finding it in a house.

What I particularly find interesting is the “Carrot Museum” that has been added! It’s similar to the Visitor’s Center on Crisis Caverns. Will every island have one of these from now on? I hope so! Perhaps this is a way for Poptropica to become more educational so perhaps schools will encourage its use. An example of one of the signs in the museum is below, describing the carrot’s evolution.

The Quest Log has also worked for me so far, which I’m fairly happy about because it was my favorite change from the original Poptropica. It’s especially helpful if you haven’t played in a long time and forgot where you were, or you simply need a nudge in the right direction.

Anyway, that’s all for now. Have fun! 🙂

A New World is Coming…

Hiya, Silver Wolf here, and I have some exciting news! Skinny Moon sent out some sneak peeks of Poptropica Worlds, which is releasing soon, and I’m sure all of you are ready to see what’s coming up! Some things they said that are going to be in the new Poptropica Worlds include:

  • A house! You get to decorate it and everything.
  • More options to customize your Poptropican!
  • The rumored new island…Crisis Caverns!
  • New art, animation, and gameplay mechanics.

Plus, your current Poptropica account will still be available in Poptropica Worlds!

Photos

Oh yes, they included photos! The first one is named “Crisis Caverns,” but it’s probably just the tip of the iceberg. After all, the photo is above ground when the island is mostly going to be underground.

As you can see, one of the signs says “Caldera State Park,” and there actually is a Caldera National Park, but it’s most likely referring to the meaning of caldera as “a large volcanic crater.” Maybe that’s how we go underground? There is a mining shaft to the left, though, so who knows. To the right, you can also see a sign that says “Old Reliable,” most likely a play on the name of the Old Faithful geyser in Yellowstone National Park.

Now that we’ve evaluated picture one, let’s look at picture two. Continue reading

9th Birthday, #PoptropicaArt, & More!

Hiya, Silver Wolf here, with some Poptastic Updates! I would like to note that this is replacing this week’s Mashup Mondays, but there will be one next week.

9 Lives Means 9 Birthdays

Now, I love cats, and so I’m pretty excited for Poptropica’s 9th birthday items… The 9th Birthday Balloon of course, and a hat with a cat in it (it even wags its tail)! So cute. Like last year’s 8-bit pig item, this year’s is also a play on the birthday number.

Poptropica’s birthday month is September, so they probably won’t be in the store for much longer! A little extra info is that Poptropica had a birthday party at their HQ, including Jeff Kinney. Looks pretty fun to me. I mean, cats!

No Time for Naps, There’s a New Map!

Hiya, Silver Wolf here, and it looks like Poptropica has had a bit of a makeover! The map with all of the islands has gotten quite of new additions… If you haven’t seen it yet or want to find out more, keep reading! 🙂 If you just want the recap, scroll to the bottom.

Now, I think we’ve all noticed lately that fewer islands have been released. Well, that’s part of the reason I made this title: you may be getting tired, but it looks like the Creators have been working on other features for us Poptropicans, and this one I like quite a bit. It’s even on the app!

Map.PNGThe first thing to note about the new map is that they’re all in the same style! Yes, even the non-SUI islands without sound or a bigger screen. Also, you may be wondering, why is Mythology on the first page and not one of the last? After all, islands have been arranged by their release date. Well, that’s another thing of the past! Now they are arranged by how popular they are. And let me just say, not only is that convenient for new Poptropicans, but it is also genius advertising Great Pumpkinon Poptropica’s part. Although, Great Pumpkin looks very lonely at the bottom of the last page. 😦

#SaveGreatPumpkin

Honestly, it’s probably because it’s only available to Members right now…right? Yes, definitely. “Home” also seems to be playing a larger part in this. Not only is there an icon in the top right corner, but it’s on the first page, and you land there whenever you log back into Poptropica, no matter what island you were on before you logged off!

Island InfoAh, but let’s get to the specifics. First of all, those bars under the islands show your progress on the island, whether it’s your first time or you restarted. When you click an island, some info will come up, including the difficulty of the island (looks like Captain Crawfish had some part in this with the gold crossbones). Under that is the medallion with how many times you’ve completed the island at the top-right, and your progress underneath, along with an option to restart. To the right is a short excerpt about the island and a ‘Start’ button. Pretty convenient! As a recap:

  • The map is in the app.
  • All the islands have the same style, along with some cool clouds.
  • The islands are arranged by how popular they are.
  • “Home” is slowly gaining more focus.
  • Islands have a bar for your progress.
  • The difficulty of the island is shown once you click it.
  • How many times you’ve completed an island is also shown.
  • Information about the island is given, too.
