New Costumes, Timmy Failure Updates, & Haxe JavaScript Transitions

Hiya, Poptropicans! Happy Easter (if you celebrate)! It seems as if within the last week or so, Poptropica has picked up its pace (quite dramatically) from the past month. See what happens when you focus on your exams? You miss all the cool stuff. 😜 Just kidding, of course. There’s plenty of time for school and fun!

The first piece of news is that there have been some Store updates for April! As with every month, there are Members-only gifts for April, this time focusing on historical icons. They are Cleopatra, Sir Lancelot, and Pocahontas:

Blast to the Past

I would like to thank Gentle Dolphin for noting something here that I may not have realized otherwise – the Pocahontas costume is the exact same as Sacagawea on Time Tangled Island. It’s not really the best look to reuse an outfit from one person to another just because they share the same culture (especially when they were born nearly two centuries apart in two distinct areas of the country). Either way, though, you can customize the outfit for free from Time Tangled.

Moving on, other changes for the Store include some April-themed updates, such as a chick follower, egg launcher, hiking shoes, and more:

Trolls World Tour Ad and #NationalPuppyDay

Hi, Poptropicans! Despite a lack of posts this month so far on the Creators’ Blog, there have been some small updates recently on Poptropica and Instagram! It’s likely that like the rest of us, Poptropica has had to make some major shifts to accommodate with the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The first piece of news is that an advertisement game has appeared on the first page of Poptropica map. You can also visit it on right side of the main street on 24 Carrot Island. It’s for Trolls World Tour, a Dreamworks movie coming out April 10th!

Trolls Island

Once you enter, you can talk to several of Troll’s main characters and explore the area. If you talk to Poppy, the pink troll, you’ll go through several dialogue lines and the game screen will appear. Your mission: defeat the rock music trolls with your electric guitar!

A Greek Farewell

Hiya, Silver Wolf here with some exciting and saddening news. To start with, some beloved Creators have recently been let go, including Mitch Krpata, who, according to his blog, was the “‘Senior Story Developer and Narrative Designer'” of Poptropica for many years. Along with his blog post, he recently composed a Tweet mentioning his departure:

Krpata wrote four (amazing) Poptropica books, including Poptropica: The End of Time, Poptropica: The Secret Society, Poptropica: The Lost Expedition, and the Poptropica Island Creator Kit. Possibly what he is best and most fondly known for by the community is being Captain Crawfish, an author on the Poptropica Creators’ Blog and the narrator for Poptropica video walkthroughs. He’ll be greatly missed, and we’ll always remember his humor. Hopefully he does get to follow his dreams!

Nate Greenwall, known for creating Dr. Hare, has also left Poptropica, expressing his gratitude for working for Poptropica in a Tweet:

Costume & Membership Winners!

Hiya, Silver Wolf here with some exciting news! Remember the #MyPoptropicaCostume contest from way, way back (February 8th, actually)? Well, in case you’ve forgotten, these were the Grand Prize costume winners:

Why am I mentioning this, you ask? Maybe because Poptropica gave a sneak peek of the costumes! The post was pretty cryptic, though, only saying this:

Costume contest winners are dropping soon in Poptropica Worlds and Poptropica Original! Stay tuned for these exciting outfits…

No date or even hint? Also, in case you haven’t noticed, posts are no longer by Skinny Moon, so the style is pretty different. I’m not much of a fan with the new changes… After all, we’re not getting a connection to the author anymore. If you didn’t see, these are what the costumes look like currently:

It looks like the most changes came to the Ocean Princess costume, especially when it comes to the “boy” version, and it lost some of the glow effects. I think they could have just changed the colors, but whatever. 😛 The costume also comes with a trident, which wasn’t part of the original. I have to say, though, the Hip Hop Boy costume is pretty spot-on.

Those aren’t the only recent winners announced, however. Recently there was a membership contest for Poptropica’s 10th birthday. All you had to do was create a unique island that had a birthday cake, parrotfish, and color green included. All ten winners got a 1-month membership for their amazing submission! These submissions included (click images for full size):

24 Carrot in Poptropica Worlds!

24 Carrot

Hiya, Silver Wolf here with some very recent news about Poptropica Worlds! An exciting update has arrived, relating to one of Poptropica’s oldest and most popular islands: 24 Carrot! Oddly, it released quite abruptly without any post or sneak peeks nodding towards its arrival. Is this a sign of less communication from Poptropica? We shall see…

New 24 Carrot CharacterIn other news, there are several changes to our beloved land of Dr. Hare. I haven’t completed it yet, but certain aspects of the quest have changed, like *spoilers* you release Charlie’s cat from a cage, which was a trap for Dr. Hare! That’s quite different from the original assignment of just finding it in a house.

What I particularly find interesting is the “Carrot Museum” that has been added! It’s similar to the Visitor’s Center on Crisis Caverns. Will every island have one of these from now on? I hope so! Perhaps this is a way for Poptropica to become more educational so perhaps schools will encourage its use. An example of one of the signs in the museum is below, describing the carrot’s evolution.

The Quest Log has also worked for me so far, which I’m fairly happy about because it was my favorite change from the original Poptropica. It’s especially helpful if you haven’t played in a long time and forgot where you were, or you simply need a nudge in the right direction.

Anyway, that’s all for now. Have fun! 🙂
