April 2015, and MotM Interview

What’s up, Poptropicans?

First off, I wanted to mention the very funny joke the Creators played on us:

Available on both 3½” and 5¼” floppy disc, Poptropica: The Text Adventure is compatible with all leading desktop computer platforms, including Commodore 64, TRS-80, and Apple IIe. Coming soon!

Poptropica: The Text Adventure was just some white words on a black background:

And for those of you who don’t know what a floppy disk looks like (or is), here you go: (I actually had to ask my dad for help on this, as I had no idea what it is either 😀 )

As far as I can understand, a floppy disk was something you would insert into your computer, run the program, and the words would show up on the screen ( I may be wrong though 🙂 )

Aside from that, over on the Creator’s Blog, we got an interview with the Mystery of the Map illustrator, Kory Merrit!

Captain Crawfish: How did you get involved in illustrating Mystery of the Map?

Kory Merritt: The Poptropica Creators originally hired me to illustrate the Poptropica comic strip. After a little while they asked me to try some graphic novel page samples, which led to me working on “Mystery of the Map” with author Max “Galactic Hot Dogs” Brallier.

CC: What are the challenges of adapting Poptropica’s art style from an online game to a graphic novel? What are the joys?

KM: Poptropica has a very distinct style. I’m actually an art teacher by day and didn’t have much freelance experience, so working for Poptropica was the first time I had to draw someone else’s characters. It took a little while to get the hang of it – the Poptropica design might seem simple at times, but there are little details that can make or break the characters. Fortunately, the Poptropica Creators were very patient and helped guide me along. I’m pretty happy with the results, for I think the illustrations resemble the standard Poptropican model, but at the same time have a hand-drawn, comic-type feel.

CC: What’s your process for illustrating the book?

KM: I’m old-fashioned enough to still use pen and paper for the most part, but for “Mystery of the Map” I also used digital color and made corrections in Photoshop.

CC: Who’s your favorite MotM character to draw?

KM: The Vikings! It’s fun to draw angry faces.

CC: What other projects have you worked on that Poptropicans might like to know about?

KM: I draw some of my own stories, mostly just for fun. One of them is on FunBrain, and some are on GoComics.com. It seems I will also have my own illustrated book coming out later this year, published by Andrews McMeel.

Now many of you have seen my theory on the possibly upcoming Mystery of the Map Island(since it is sticky 😛 ), but here is a little more evidence that I found 😀 (thanks to the PHB for some of this!)

  • If you type mysteryofthemapisland.com, it will direct to Poptropica!
  • Daily Pops are blasting with MotM pictures! Look at them below (be prepared for a “Viking’s Grotto” common room!)

I’ll probably go into more detail about the images once the island is confirmed.

I can’t wait for MotM, but that’s my personal opinion 😀 What are you guys thinking? Put it in the comments!

P.S. Wolfy- I totally fell for that joke about you leaving 😀 Don’t ever do that again! 😛

Tip of the Week #1

Hey ‘tropicans! I know I just did a post, but this is something I’ve been planning for a week or two now, and I had to do it 😀

Anyway, since this is Poptropica Tips, I’m going to give out weekly tips. If you have an idea for a tip, or if you need a tip for something, let me know at trustybiker031(AT)gmail(DOT)com!

So, when you’re in Wimpy Wonderland, and you have to eat the watercress salad, that part’s really hard. I could never get past it. Until, by chance, I opened a new tab while I was in that minigame. I come back a couple seconds later, and the game was done. I had won! And it was all because I opened that new tab!

Note: This may not work on some browsers/computers.

The Tip of the Week is: While in Wimpy Wonderland Island, and you’re trying to get past the watercress salad mini-game, open a new tab, wait five seconds, come back, and you should have won the game!

Well, did that help? Let me know in the comments if it did!

Popstorm 19, and PCon Dates Changed

Hey everyone! It’s Trusty Biker. There’s not that much to post about, but we don’t want to get behind, so I’m posting now!

First off, we have Popstorm 19, which features two cute beaver brothers 🙂

And, just to let you know, the PoptropiCon Episode 3 dates have changed. I don’t remember the exact date or Tweet, but I’m pretty sure that it’s March 26 for members and April 16 for non-members. If any of the other authors want to back me up on that…

Speaking of episode 3, let’s talk about Arabian Nights Episode 3 for just a second. Here’s a picture that was tweeted, but that’s not all…

arabian nights sneak peak 3So you see a princess with her father right? Over on the PHB, author Brave Tomato made an excellent theory of Arabian Nights. And guess what? The creators said that  it was spot on! Click here if you want to know about Arabian Nights. Or don’t click there if you want to be surprised 🙂

Well, that’s really all there is for today. In a couple of days I’m going to be starting something called Tip Of The Week, where I give you some tips to beat the toughest things… It’s coming soon, don’t worry!

So anyway, I’m glad I got to give you that short tidbit of news 🙂 Hopefully I’ll do the Tip of the Week thing soon it’s up now! Click here! 😀

Pop18-Con Dates!

What’s up, Poptropicans?

I’m going to do a quickie post today because there isn’t that much to post about… I actually like quickie posts better than regular posts because if we don’t post about the stuff that  is happening RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT, then we get behind and do  A SUPER LONG POST, and nobody wants to read that. Well I don’t, anyway.

So here’ s my quickie post of the day: Popstorm 18 was Tweeted, titled Classes with Glasses.

I also asked Poptropica when Arabian Nights 3 was estimated to come out, but they haven’t replied yet… I’ll let you know when they do! They said around July/August…..

I was also coming Poptropica’s Twitter when I found out some estimated release dates for PoptropiCon Episode 3!

So members, you have to wait until March 19 (hopefully!), and non-members, you have to wait until April 9. But just a reminder, THESE DATES CAN CHANGE! Don’t get your hopes up!
