Mashup Mondays: Toy Story

mashup-mondays-header

*gasp* Is this is a post? Yes, yes it is. If you remember my last post, I said “So this brings up the question: what‚Äôs going to happen to the PTFP? I don‚Äôt know. I‚Äôm never going to delete it, but I‚Äôm not sure if I‚Äôll post again. I could post a week from now if I felt like it, or this could be it. It depends.”

Well, it’s a Monday. Toy Story 4 is out (with a 98% Rotten Tomatoes rating). I love art. I still love Poptropica in its own way. So I decided: why not make a post if I’ll have fun? So we’re bringing out the ol’ Toy Story mashed with Poptropica! I could edit this to the extreme like I used to, but I think that’s part of what made me tired of posting. I want to be genuine, to be me. So there might be mistakes or awkward wording, but the point is to have fun! Let’s get to it!

Toy Story and Poptropica’s History

Oddly enough, there have been lots of Toy Story ads on Poptropica, but not much documentation. Apparently, in 2010 there was a Toy Story/Toy Story 2 DVD ad, but I can only find this Answers.com question and this YouTube video as evidence (thanks to the person who recorded this, who is 9 years older now, which is weird to think about):

The ad consisted of a crane machine game, and the prizes were a Toy Alien costume, a Buzz Lightyear costume, and an army men effect card. According to the Answers.com response, there was a “Jenny” costume as well, but that’s not a Toy Story character, so perhaps they meant Jessie. Who knows.

Now, also in 2010, there was also a Toy Story 3 ad, which did release that year in theaters. This time, there’s better documentation, but still only one post describing it that I can find on Icy Comet’s Blog (wow, that brings back memories!). The costumes, with credit to the post and blog of course, looked like this:

The PTFP: 6 Years and the Future

Hiya, Silver Wolf here. It’s been a long time! 9 months, in fact. I wanted to address some things about the PTFP and its future. Yes, it’s true, it’s been inactive for a long time now, but that doesn’t mean that I’ve forgotten about it, or that it’s any less important to me. The PTFP will always hold a special place in my heart, which is why I felt like I had to make this post. This is definitely going to be more personal, open, and unedited than most posts in the past.

Firstly, I wanted to explain why the PTFP has gone inactive. Honestly, the biggest factor is that I simply don’t have the time to keep it updated. This year is my senior year of high school, and to me, school comes before almost anything else. And let me tell you:¬†senior year is hectic.¬†I’ve been starting homework and college/scholarship stuff at 5 pm everyday (I get home at 4:00-4:30 most days), only to stay up until 12 am. Then, after doing this for 5 days a week, thinking “At least it’s the weekend!” to only spend my entire weekend doing¬†more¬†homework and college stuff.¬†I haven’t even had time to play my favorite game in¬†2 weeks,¬†which I would play everyday if I could. But, I’m not asking for pity; to me, school, despite the stress, is completely worth it. I just wanted to give the biggest context as to why I still love the PTFP but don’t post.

Again, I want to be honest. The second reason that I’ve stopped posting is that my interest in Poptropica has lessened. I’ve been more invested in Overwatch for awhile now, but I still love Poptropica dearly. Sometimes, I do really want to play Poptropica, and sometimes I do have an urge to post (like I do now), but those thoughts aren’t near as common as they used to be, and I almost always don’t have the time.

So this brings up the question: what’s going to happen to the PTFP? I don’t know. I’m never going to delete it, but I’m not sure if I’ll post again. I could post a week from now if I felt like it, or this could be it. It depends. Plus, I’m thinking of starting a personal blog soon just for talking about my interests, school, and life in general. The posts on it probably won’t be consistent, either, but that’s the beauty of a personal blog: it doesn’t have to be. Either way, I will still be active on¬†Discord. I mainly use the app on my phone now, so I will almost never have the green dot showing that I’m online, but I go on it on a daily basis. You can always direct message me or @ me, and I’ll respond.

Why am I posting now after all these months? Well, it’s the PTFP’s 6th birthday! Woot woot! I decided, as per usual, I will still talk about some of the statistics of the blog and give a little speech (although this whole post has basically been a speech). I don’t want this post to be sad. It’s just…a transition in my life and the PTFP.

So, I’ll do some overviews. In 2012, we had 469 views. Admittedly, this blog was created in December, so there wasn’t much time there. In 2013, we got 69,066 views. To this day, 2013 was the biggest year for the PTFP. 2014 got 60,609; 2015 got 54,187; 2016 got 64,359; and 2017 got 57,821. This year? 40,343 views. That’s amazing. It’s less than it’s been in the past, but it’s still heartwarming to see that people still view and enjoy the PTFP. A lot of work has gone into it, and I’ll never forget that.

Our top 10 countries this year: the United States with 33.3k views, Australia with 1.6k views, Canada with 1.6k views, the UK with 472 views, New Zealand with 321 views, India with 277 views, Brazil with 259 views, the Philippines with 257 views, Hong Kong SAR China with 178 views, and China with 164 views. Interestingly enough, we also have 21 countries with just 1 view each this year.

And, of course, we’re almost at¬†350,000 views, which is a huge milestone. I never thought the PTFP would ever get this big. I just created it 6 years ago because I thought it was cool. I had no idea how important the PTFP would become to me. Specifically, I want to thank all my friends who have stuck with me through everything. Spotted Dragon, Brave Sky, Rue, Obi, Jason, Nick, and Jord, you guys are are so amazing. And everyone who has worked on the blog with me, you guys are, too. I’m not sure where I would be today if I hadn’t met all of you.

Well, I suppose that’s it. Some final recaps…the future of the PTFP is unknown, although it will definitely not be deleted. I still love it and all that it has become. I will still be active in the community (specifically Discord). And a big thank you to everyone.

A Greek Farewell

Hiya, Silver Wolf here with some exciting and saddening news. To start with, some beloved Creators have recently been let go, including Mitch Krpata, who,¬†according to his blog, was the “‘Senior Story Developer and Narrative Designer'” of Poptropica for many years. Along with his blog post, he recently composed a Tweet mentioning his departure:

Krpata wrote four (amazing) Poptropica books, including¬†Poptropica: The End of Time, Poptropica: The Secret Society, Poptropica: The Lost Expedition,¬†and the¬†Poptropica Island Creator Kit. Possibly what he is best and most fondly known for by the community is being Captain Crawfish, an author on the Poptropica Creators’ Blog and the narrator for Poptropica video walkthroughs. He’ll be greatly missed, and we’ll always remember his humor. Hopefully he does get to follow his dreams!

Nate Greenwall, known for creating Dr. Hare, has also left Poptropica, expressing his gratitude for working for Poptropica in a Tweet:

He’ll be greatly missed as well, but sadly he is not the last to leave. Lance Fry, a 2D artist, has not directly mentioned his exit from Poptropica, but it is known that he left too. Additionally, there could be others who were let go but have yet to be discovered by the community, as Christine Capota, the Director of Product Management for StoryArc Media, hinted:

So what does this mean? Well, I’ll be honest: it’s not looking good. Letting go senior employees with years and years of experience is not a positive sign, whether for financial reasons or not. It’s also worth mentioning that there hasn’t been a post on the Creators’ Blog since December 18th, another not-so-good sign.

5 Years of the PTFP

The very first post made on the PTFP was on December 10, 2012. That means this blog has been around¬†5 entire years. During the 5 years, we have met a lot of great people that have all contributed to this blog in their own ways, and I appreciate every one of them. I know there hasn’t been a post in 2 months, but that doesn’t mean the blog is over. In fact, I would¬†love for more authors on the PTFP so we can become completely active again! You can contact me through Discord¬†(preferred) or email.

So what have these 5 years encompassed? Well, over 300,000 views, over 14,000 comments, nearly 800 posts, and over 200 followers on the blog and Twitter each.

Statistics

So where have these views come from? Well, almost nearly all have come from the United States, but there are a fair share of other countries that have viewed the blog, too, even if only one view! The top 10 countries as of this moment are:

  1. The United States – 249,627
  2. Australia – 10,805
  3. Canada – 10,125
  4. India – 5,218
  5. The United Kingdom Р3,919
  6. Philippines – 3,845
  7. New Zealand – 2,264
  8. Hong Kong SAR China – 1,640
  9. Singapore – 1,457
  10. Malaysia – 1,388

I think it is awesome that this blog has viewers from around the globe. But most importantly, besides just numbers, I have formed memories and friends in this community since this blog was made, and that’s not something statistics can show. I would especially like to thank Spotted Dragon, Brave Sky, and Starving Cereal (SC) who have been here since the beginning. And thank you to everyone for sticking with us!

Costume & Membership Winners!

Hiya, Silver Wolf here with some exciting news! Remember the #MyPoptropicaCostume contest from way, way back (February 8th, actually)? Well, in case you’ve forgotten, these were the Grand Prize costume winners:

Why am I mentioning this, you ask? Maybe because Poptropica gave a sneak peek of the costumes! The post was pretty cryptic, though, only saying this:

Costume contest winners are dropping soon in Poptropica Worlds and Poptropica Original! Stay tuned for these exciting outfits…

No date or even hint? Also, in case you haven’t noticed, posts are no longer by Skinny Moon, so the¬†style¬†is¬†pretty different. I’m not much of a fan with the new changes… After all, we’re not getting a connection to the author anymore. If you didn’t see, these are what the costumes look like currently:

MPC 3

It looks like the most changes came to the Ocean Princess costume, especially when it comes to the “boy” version, and it lost some of the glow effects. I think they could have just changed the colors, but whatever. ūüėõ The costume also comes with a trident, which wasn’t part of the original. I have to say, though, the Hip Hop Boy costume is pretty spot-on.

Those aren’t the only recent winners announced, however. Recently there was a membership contest for Poptropica’s 10th birthday. All you had to do was create a unique island that had a birthday cake, parrotfish, and color green included. All ten winners got a 1-month membership for their amazing submission! These submissions included (click images for full size):

24 Carrot in Poptropica Worlds!

24 Carrot

Hiya, Silver Wolf here with some very¬†recent¬†news about Poptropica Worlds! An exciting update has arrived, relating to one of Poptropica’s oldest and most popular islands: 24 Carrot!¬†Oddly, it released quite abruptly without any post or sneak peeks nodding towards its arrival. Is this a sign of less communication from Poptropica? We shall see…

New 24 Carrot CharacterIn other news, there are several changes to our beloved land of Dr. Hare. I haven’t completed it yet, but certain aspects of the quest have changed, like¬†*spoilers*¬†you release Charlie’s cat from a cage, which was a trap for Dr. Hare! That’s quite different from the original assignment of just finding it in a house.

What I particularly find interesting is the “Carrot Museum” that has been added! It’s similar to the Visitor’s Center on Crisis Caverns. Will every island have one of these from now on? I hope so! Perhaps this is a way for Poptropica to become more educational so perhaps schools will encourage its use. An example of one of the signs in the museum is below, describing the carrot’s evolution.

Carrot Chart

The Quest Log has also worked for me so far, which I’m fairly happy about because it was my favorite change from the original Poptropica. It’s especially helpful if you haven’t played in a long time and forgot where you were, or you simply need a nudge in the right direction.

Anyway, that’s all for now. Have fun! ūüôā

News & More: #WhereIsTheHare

Hiya Poptropicans! I know there hasn’t been a post recently, but I’ve been kind of busy, and, well, Poptropica¬†news is kind of dry right now. However, there is one piece of news I’m particularly excited about! Before we dive into it, though, I’ll recap what’s happened recently (the Creators have mostly just posted about Crisis Caverns/Pop Worlds):

Those are all Poptropica Worlds related posts. I’ll go into more detail about the others!

#MyPopsona

If you don’t know, a “Popsona” is a persona, or full-fleshed character, in Poptropica. They often include backstories and your Poptropican’s iconic look. The Creators have taken to sharing them on their media recently, with several on the Creators’ Blog itself! Here are some featured ones:

Make sure to click the images to enlarge them and see what account they’re from. You can actually check out #MyPopsona on the PHB’s post with some authors’ Popsonas! I tried to be pretty creative with mine, so check it out if you can!

#WhereIsTheHare

This is the piece of news I’m pretty excited about! Maybe it’s just me, but it seems reminiscent of Dr. Hare’s Travels¬†featured from July 22, 2011, to January 5, 2012. We actually have a page featuring all his travels from that sadly short period of time. He traveled all over the globe, including Argentina, Australia, Colombia, England, France, Singapore, and the United States.

Even though it’s now called #WhereIsTheHare and is shared by Poptropica fans rather than a Creator, I hope that it brings back the theme of Dr. Hare’s Travels. Where do you think he is?

The Poppies 2017

I know, I know! Self-advertisement, eh? Well, if you haven’t heard, the Poptropica Help Blog is hosting its annual Poppies, where you nominate in Pop-related categories and vote for the ultimate winner. One of the categories is the best active fansite (outside of the Poptropica Help Network).

I would really appreciate if you guys voted for Poptropica Tips (this blog), as a lot of work has been put into this blog for over 4 years! Although, if you want to vote for another blog, that’s understandable. I just wanted to put it out there!

They prefer a link, so if you want to vote for the PTFP, put poptropicatips.com. If the blog gets enough nominations, it’ll go to the voting round! Anyway, thank you all for visiting the PTFP! ūüôā
