Poptropica Ghost Story Island

There’s a little something weird going on in Hemlock Harbor, a small town on the New England coastline. The village is haunted, and no one is exactly certain what the ghosts desire or how to make them leave. There’s a secret behind the ghosts and if you can expose it, you may be able to at last set the specters free and prevent them from haunting Hemlock Harbor.

You will park your blimp on Main Street in Hemlock Harbor and immediately discover several buildings which you can visit. You are able to walk inside four buildings when visiting Main Street–the visitor center, the Hemlock Herald, the Bank and a tiny bakery named the Gingerbread House. When you walk inside the Gingerbread House, you will spot a baker who sells many tasty based goods. You will want to check out the notes from customers that she hangs on the wall. The Visitor Center is the island’s multiplayer room, where you can hang out with other Poptropicans. The Bank has a single staffed teller window, but the bank teller leaves for the night as soon as you arrive. You can head downstairs to the vault, but the guard will not let you in until you have money to make a deposit. Walk into the Hemlock Herald to see the inner workings of the town’s only newspaper. You’ll find the editor in here. She’s looking for a scoop on the town’s ghosts and will pay you $50 if you can produce proof that they exist. This should be one of your first stops on the island.

You’ll find the multiplayer room right next to where you arrive. It’s called the Visitor Center. The interior of the Visitor Center is pretty much what you’d expect. It has several floors of odds and ends from around the island. You can hang out inside and enjoy the Visitor Center with other Poptropicans. Try playing some mini-games or use the Costumize to borrow some cool looks from other players.

The main areas to visit in Ghost Story Island are the Cemetery, the Foggy Forest, Main Street, Hemlock Dwellings, the Lighthouse and the Prison. Even though it’s smaller than previous islands, you’ll be moving around a lot and visiting and re-visiting the zones quite often. The Cemetery is one area in which you’ll be spending a lot of time. Creepy!

Check out a few of the main zones from Ghost Story Island.

  • Cemetery Lot A
  • Cemetery Lot B
  • Catacombs
  • Cemetery Labyrinth
  • Foggy Forest
  • Main Street
  • Hemlock Dwellings

Every island in Poptropica features several items and Ghost Story Island has its fair share. The items you get in the bakery to assist with ghost hunting are the most exciting. Your ghost-hunting toolset includes a rustic camera, a mountable thermometer, a thermal scanner, and an EMF detector. Each one of the different tools is used to help find a particular ghost in the game.

Here is a list of all the items you’ll get in your backpack on the island:

  • Pamphlet
  • Scrapbook
  • Ring
  • Salt
  • Binoculars
  • Mug Shot
  • Violin and Music
  • Pickaxe
  • Torch
  • Camera
  • Thermometer
  • Thermal Scanner

Easter Eggs, Fun Facts and Little Surprises

There are several hidden secrets and surprises on Ghost Story Island and you’ll find several just by poking around or keeping an eye out. Here are just a few of the really cool ones.

Downstairs in the Hemlock Herald Archives

Towards the end of the quest, you’ll need to go down to the newspaper archives to find out what happened in 1929. As you’re looking at the film machine, take a look at the boxes stacked next to it. One of the boxes is marked as holding Balloon Boy Articles. You might remember Balloon Boy, a popular character who has shown up in a few different islands on Poptropica.

Warden Jeffries Loves Pastries

This becomes an important part of the plot later on, but in the early part of your quest you can view notes from the customers on the wall at the bakery. One is an old photo of prison warden Jefferies, and it says, “Your delicious pastries helped me make it through many a cold night.”

The Souvenir Salesman on Main Street

Take a look at the man standing next to the fountain selling souvenirs. When you click on him to talk, he’ll switch around his souvenir cart to display several ghost hunter items. But he’ll ask you to look quickly as he’s worried that the Magistrate will discover his secret stash.
